Social Penetration Theory (The Breakfast Club film as a case study)

This is an opportunity to earn up to 3 points of extra credit by putting the feedback to work that you received on your finalized paper. This will require you to revise your paper using that feedback and to reflect on how you incorporated that feedback to improve your paper.

Reflect

Using the feedback provided on your final paper submission, at the end of your paper provide a 75-150 word summary on how you incorporated that feedback to improve your paper.

Revise & Polish

Revise your last paper submission by incorporating the feedback you received on your final grade for that paper.
Format your paper according to the guidelines listed below.
Title your paper with something interesting that relates to your topic.
Make sure your thesis can be easily identified by asking someone else to read your first page and to identify your thesis. If they can’t do this, you need to revise.
Develop your claims by providing in-depth and specific examples that explicate the theory you are examining.
Incorporate your academic sources into your literature review and your analysis. Look at pages 3-5 of this sample research paper

from the Humanities. You will see how the writer incorporates expertise from scholars into her discussion of the topic she is addressing. Your job as the writer will be to illuminate the topic and to demonstrate that you are knowledgeable about it by showing you have done your research and that you have incorporated that research into your writing.

Read your paper out loud to catch errors, improve your syntax and word choices, and to guarantee it makes sense. This should be your last step with your revisions.
Write a 750-150 word Reflection at the very end of your paper where you will clearly identify how you have incorporated the feedback provided into your paper.
PAPER FORMATTING AND CITATIONS

Length: 1500-2000 words (approximately 5-8 pages, double-spaced).

Format: Include the prompt at the top of the page and the word count at the end. One-inch margins and a font size that does not exceed 12 points is recommended. Paper should be double spaced and have standard formatting for paragraphs, quotes, and citations.

Academic Sources: Paper must include at least three academic/scholarly sources

that are properly cited and incorporated into the text. Your textbook does NOT count as one of your sources. Trade journals, like Psychology Today or Scientific America, do not count.

College-level Writing: The essay should be mechanically correct with proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

The Feedback from my finalized paper is as follows: “Great work Maykela! You are a really strong writer and make a persuasive argument here. Your paper is effectively organized, and really clear to the reader. The only issues were in following the rubric for formatting purposes and including a reflection on what you did to incorporate the feedback you received on earlier versions of your paper.

THE RUBRIC FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT IS AS FOLLOWS:

1. Formatting – Worth 0.25pts. Formatting should include Student Name, Prompt, Unique Paper Title, and Word Count (1500-2000 words, excluding prompt) at the end of the paper.

2. Research Question(s) & Thesis Statement: Worth 1pt. Thesis statement is a direct response to the research questions and demonstrates a direct connection to the prompt.

3. Claims & Evidence: Worth 4 pts. Claims are illuminating, connected to the thesis, and are clearly supported with strong evidence from the selected film/real-world scenario.

4. Research & Citations: Worth 1.5 pts. 3 academic sources are clearly tied to a theory, are incorporated throughout the paper, are properly cited in MLA or APA format, and are included at the end of the paper on the works cited page.

5. College-Level Writing: Worth 1 pts. All spelling, grammar, writing conventions, and citations are impeccable!

6. Paper Length: Worth 0.25 pts. Meets required paper length of 1500-2000 words, excluding prompt.

7. Feedback Incorporation: Worth 1 pts. In 150-200 words provides a clear account of how feedback on both the outline and the peer reviews were used to improve the final paper.
