–After reading the above material, choose ten children’s poems from the Poetry Foundation website to explicate in an essay. I suggest you Google the term “poetry explication” and review some examples. Explication simply means “explaining closely” and because the ways of accomplishing that task are varied, you should choose the method that works best for you. Just remember: our main objective is to examine poems in order to reveal how each might best appeal to or be interpreted by a child. Try to use some poetry rhetoric: symbol, metaphor, rhyme scheme, audience, and theme are good first choices when explaining poems.
–be a minimum of 1000 words (your draft must include word count; you can type word count under your heading or title). There is no maximum word count.
–utilize MLA manuscript format.
–utilize MLA-style in-text citations from the sources you have utilized.
–include an MLA-style work cited for the sources you have utilized.
–have a title.
–utilize first person point of view/expressive “I” and/or third person (he, she, it).
–not use second person point of view “you.”
–utilize college level mechanics.
–have no misspellings.
