3) Listen to an argumentative podcast. Whatever podcast you choose is up to you. It could be an argument about society, pop culture, gender, the environment, sports, science and technology, politics, food…whatever interests you. It could also be a review of a current movie, book, album, tech product, etc. You have a lot of leeway, but there are some parameters:
It needs to make an argument of some sort. In order to qualify as an argument, it should meet the criteria included in Lunsford, Ch. 1, which you might want to review (e.g. it argues to convince and inform, to persuade, to make a decision, or to understand and explore and issue). As long as you can identify and explain the argument your podcast makes, you should be fine.
It shouldn’t be exclusively a studio-based interview or purely factual news reporting/live entertainment/sports broadcasting/comedy, etc.
It should cover content you would be comfortable sharing with other members of the class.
National Public Radio (NPR) is an excellent resource for high-quality audio podcasts. Feel free to search for a podcast episode (or episodes) from any of the following programs:

This American Life: https://www.thisamericanlife.org/archive
4) Your next discussion post should be slightly longer: between 350-500 words. For this post, write a Podcast Analysis. In your analysis, first briefly describe the podcast episode you listened to and summarize its content (no more than a paragraph). Second, describe the podcast’s argument. What issue is it trying to examine, inform us about, or persuade us of? Does it take an explicit stance for or against an issue, or does it mostly explore and raise questions? Third, describe the likely audience for this podcast, and identify the rhetorical strategies it uses to keep our interest. For example, what is its tone and style? Its relationship to the audience (is the speaker an insider or outsider for this audience)? Does it use music, ambient sound, sound effects, or personal interviews; if so, how? (You can also discuss any relevant questions from Lunsford, Ch. 16, pp. 389-391.) Fourth, relate the podcast’s argument to Ch. 7: how does it structure its argument? Is it more classical, Rogerian/invitational, or Toulmin argument? While you discuss these questions, you can also share your personal response to the podcast’s argument. 350-500 words.
