Analyzing statistical data, evaluating findings, and drawing conclusions for practice.

First, read any existing posts in the discussion. Then post at least one substantial response post, utilizing at least one outside source and at least one class resource (textbook, class articles, etc.). Posts should be at least two fully developed paragraphs and should thoughtfully reflect on, critique, or expand upon the post that you are responding to. Remember that “You did a good job!” posts will not receive any credit. The goal is to get a dialogue going with your classmates. You may respond to any posts in the thread, but avoid responding directly to the original topic if several students have already done so. If you see an engaging discussion that has started, feel free to join in and add your input.

The most pertinent place to look when discerning the results of a study is the “results” portion. The statistical data gives insight as to the numerical value of the given results. These numbers can be discerned through various levels of measurement. Among them is the ratio measurement, which is considered to be the “highest level” as we find it “meaningful to say someone who weighs 200 pounds is twice as heavy” as a person who is 100 pounds (Polit & Beck, 2018, p. 228). Discerning the numbers given on a table in this fashion puts the given study’s analysis into perspective. An analysis in this fashion yields a better understanding as to why these numbers matter. Not only that, but the significance as to how these numbers can be applied is the reason for the study.

For the sole purpose of applying ratios to our research studies, I felt it would be important to learn to configure these numbers. A ratio, also known as a “proportion”, is mathematically configured by having a “numerator divided by a denominator” (Hansen & Carley, p. 122, 2013). Of course, to get a simple 1 to 3 ratio or something as simple as those numbers, the statistics must align appropriately and go into one another perfectly. If it is possible though, a ratio is best suited to imply the importance and the value of your work. These numbers are simple to find and will assist us in implying the extent to which our studies can be applied. Magnitude and value of our work is driven by statistical analysis.

Now that you have reviewed the presentation, read the class articles, added to the table of evidence template, watched the walk through video, and done some of your own research into the topic, it’s time to discuss your learning with the class.
