Museum assignment
For this assignment, you will pretend that you are creating your own, very small, museum exhibit.
You will go to the DIA or another museum that contains artifacts from prior to 1000 AD (so, sadly, the Henry Ford won’t work for this.) If museums aren’t open because of COVID, you can use virtual museum tours such as at the DIA, the Louvre, or the British Museum to complete this assignment.
You will choose one region/civilization to focus on (ex: Middle East, China, Greece, Rome, etc)
You will then pick a theme from this list:
Technology
Religion/Tradition
Law
Military
The Arts
Education/Writing
Write a short introductory paragraph explaining why you think this theme is important in regards to learning more about the ancient world. (a minimum of 100 words in your intro)
You will take photos of 5 artifacts at the museum (or use 5 photos that the online museum provides) that directly relate to your chosen theme. (for example, if you chose Greece and military, you might select images of Greek swords, chariots, armor, etc)
For each of these photos, you will:
Provide the name and/or description of the artifact as given at the museum.
Provide the date or date range of the artifact
Provide the geographic location/country or civilization where it was located
Give a short (50-100 word) description of how this artifact fits into your chosen theme
You must tell me on your assignment somewhere which museum you visited and the date you went there.
(You only need a final bibliography in MLA format. You do not need to provide internal citations.)
