Holistic care means to be able to provide techniques and treatments to care for a person’s whole well-being by incorporating their mind, body, emotions, and spirit. Taylor Holland states, “Holistic care providers address a wide variety of wellness concerns, and they use a wide variety of clinically proven therapies – from surgery and pharmaceuticals, to dietary changes and exercise plans, to psychological and spiritual counseling. They might also recommend evidence-based alternative therapies, such as massage, acupuncture, and yoga, for supportive care.” (Holland, 2018). Based on the case study; a holistic-care approach would benefit a distress first-time mother whose upset about her close mother passing away a year ago, stress from her bickering partner, and the pregnancy. The first implementation I would perform for the mother is empathetic and active listening. Healing starts when you are able to build a trusting relationship and active listening allows the mother to express her feelings and emotions in a safe environment, while providing verbal affirmation and a sense of understanding.
The second implementation I would advise the mother is for counseling. Counseling can help the mother and her partner express their feelings in a safe environment and work on strategies to improve their relationship. Counseling can help the mother cope with the death of a loved one. Third implementation I would perform for the mother is therapeutic touch. “Therapeutic Touch is a holistic, evidence-based practice that incorporates the intentional and compassionate use of universal energy to promote balance and well-being.” (Therapeutic Touch International Association, 2020). Therapeutic touch will help the mother feel a sense of support that can begin the healing process mentally, physically, and spiritually. Fourth implementation I would recommend for the mother is yoga. Yoga began as a spiritual practice that promotes physical and mental health. It will help reduce the stress and let go of negative energy in her life.

She also notes that she and her partner have been bickering a lot lately on top of her feeling generally sore, tired, and overwhelmed.
