Critical Thinking

Address one of the following two prompts. Write your answer in a word processor of your choice (Word, OpenOffice, GoogleDocs, etc.) and attach the file in one of the following formats (pdf, doc, docx, odt). If you do not submit a file (of one of those formats) by the due date and time, your maximum score will drop by 15 points for each day late. Your response should be between 2-4 paragraphs in length and should fully address the prompt. You should use proper grammar, proofread your spelling, and write in complete sentences. When you open this assignment, you can view the Rubric that I will use in grading your response. You can submit your assignment as many times as you would like, and I will grade the last submission received by the deadline.

Prompt 1

Your partner tells you that arguments are always bad. Write a response that you could deliver to your partner, based on your learning this semester. In that response, either agree or disagree with your partner’s statement. Use words from our class that show an understanding of the definition of an argument, the way that an argument is constructed, and the goal of an argument. You must choose to agree or disagree in your answer.

Prompt 2

Your partner tells you that they grew up with a very critical parent and that they disapprove of you taking Critical Thinking in college because they do not want you to become a critical person, too. Write a response that you could deliver to your partner, explaining why you agree or disagree with your partner’s statement. Use words from our class that show an understanding of the definition of critical, the purpose of critical thinking, and the relationship between critical thinking and critical parents.
