Contemporary Issue Presentation Guidelines and Rubric:
Objectives:
· Describe the scope of chosen contemporary issue in American society in current times
· Describe factors that contribute to chosen topic
· Understand alternative points of view on chosen topic
· Analyze personal views related to chosen topic
· Identify nursing interventions for care of patients dealing with chosen topic
· Understand the disciplines involved in care of patients dealing with chosen topic
1. Proposal Paper: I must approve your topic. you should give me a one-page typed summary briefly describing your proposed topic and any sources you have already identified
2. Scholarly Presentation: Pick a social issue, what initiatives or interventions could a nurse implement to combat/prevent? The presentation should be an in-depth examination of some major social problem. It should demonstrate that you are familiar with the relevant research, and that you understand the issues and controversies involved. Your own original thinking, or your ability to offer some sort of critique, may be most helpful (but your own thoughts must not be used as a substitute for adequate research). Must include the nurse’s role in the problem and address interventions related to nursing. A minimum of four scholarly sources should be cited (e.g. books, journal articles). Note that scholar.google.com or your library search engine is generally better than Google when searching for sources.
3. Turn in a reference page of resources used.
4. Use a visual. This could be power point, a poster, a pamphlet. Something that can connect what you are talking about to the audience.
