Develop the ability to interpret primary sources and gain an appreciation of the problems and the complexity of working with primary sources 3. Develop writing skills Requirements • As described previously, write an essay on any money and banking topic about which you have a curiosity to learn more than will be covered in class. • The paper must have a central organizing thesis and include at least 2 primary sources and 2 additional sources. You should demonstrate in your writing that you have analyzed and interpreted the primary sources, and also demonstrate how the primary sources contribute to your thesis. All primary and secondary sources should be appropriately referenced. • Your essay should be at least 800 words in length (about 3 pages) and should follow the Guidelines and Format provided below. Guidelines 1. This assignment challenges you to be a financial expert. It asks you to go beyond reading only secondary accounts were written by other finance experts, economists, and by the popular media. 2. You should go beyond description or restatement of the primary and secondary sources and instead analyze and interpret the material. For example, what do the sources NOT tell us as well as tell us? What are the emotions of the sources? What are the political perspectives and biases of the sources? 3. Your essay should have a clear thesis in an introduction paragraph, arguments and supporting evidence in three body paragraphs, and a summary paragraph. Hints: a. The paper should be exactly five paragraphs: Intro, three arguments, conclusion b. Your thesis is the clear position that you state in the intro paragraph, defend with three arguments in the body paragraphs, and restate and make conclusions about in your conclusion paragraph Format: 1. Save and send in your paper as a Microsoft Word document, or similar document that can be opened in Microsoft word. 2. Send in your paper using the paper assignment which will be posted in the To-Do folder in the week the paper is due. 3. On the left-hand corner of the first page include your name, the title of the assignment, the name of the course, the instructor’s name, and the date you are handing in the assignment. Use Times New Roman 12-point black font 5. Pages must be numbered on the bottom 6. Use 1-inch or 1.25 margins 7.
