Final Course Paper Due on the final day of the term. You should upload your essay to the assignment dropbox. Nearly 11 million American adults use e-cigarettes, more than half of whom are under age 35. One in five high school students use e-cigarettes to vape nicotine. E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat a liquid into an aerosol vapor for inhalation. The liquids often contain nicotine (which is derived from tobacco) and flavorings such as mint, mango, or tobacco. Sales of e-cigarettes are projected to reach $9 billion in 2019. Is vaping the solution to a major public health problem caused by traditional cigarettes and a safe way to encourage adults to quit smoking? Or are e-cigarettes potentially explosive devices that addict kids to nicotine and cause serious health problems? Assignment: Write a well-developed persuasive essay in response to the questions above. Present the issue to readers, take a position, and develop a convincing, well-reasoned argument. Be sure to utilize all elements of persuasive rhetoric, including consideration and refutation of counterargument. Purpose: To convince the reader with an opposing viewpoint to consider your point of view about a controversial issue. Audience: An open-minded, educated reader with an opposing viewpoint who is not staunchly committed to that viewpoint. Tone: Choose an appropriate tone suited to your audience and to your personal style, remembering that you don’t want to put the reader on the defensive. Rather, you want to build a bridge of shared values and concerns with your reader to appeal to the reader and to convince her to consider you point of view. Research: The information you provide to your readers should be drawn from the set of articles provided with this assignment. Although I have included seven articles (mostly short) you need to use three of these sources in your essay. The sources are being provided for you since you will have limited time to work on this essay. Format: You must use MLA documentation style. The essay should be 750-1000 words or 3-4 pages long. You should also include a Works Cited page with your essay. When you summarize, paraphrase or quote information, you must accurately identify the source and include appropriate parenthetical documentation (this means in-text citation). Also, any work you cite will be on your Works Cited page of at least three sources. Remember to place word for word language in quotation marks.
