PowerPoint Presentation Guidelines

I would suggest that the order of presentation should be as follows (or something similar):

slide 1 – title of proposal

slide 2 – key points of background

slide 3 – rationale

slide 4 – specific aims

slide 5 – key methods (not every detail)

slide 6 – significance

slide 7 – time line for your project

slide 8 – list of references used for the presentation

Keep in mind that you want

· your slide background to be simple and not busy or distracting. You should

· there should not be too many words on your slides – keep it concise.

· to use pictures or graphics if they add clarity.

There should be Foot Notes to explain the slide made (presentation should be 10 to 12 minutes long when someone is presenting).

References Cited

You need to include all of the sources you use to complete the proposal presentation and hand this in separately with the abstract.

Many of these references will be used in the thesis or dissertation or a future publication (if the proposal is something that will be pursue) so this is a very important section. Each reference must have: the full set of author names, a full and correct title of the publication, the journal that the publication came from (in italics), the volume and issue number and the year of publication. Consistency is very important – do not use different names or abbreviations for the same journal. Sometimes the web is used to obtain information for a paper or presentation; however, if the material is worthy, it should have been published somewhere (where did that information come from?). If the information was not published, then it may not have been peer reviewed, and thus, is not acceptable for use in any bibliography or citation.
