The What:
Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography is an organized list of sources (works cited list). It differs from a straightforward bibliography in that each reference is followed by a paragraph length annotation that provides a summary of the source and describes why the source is useful for researching.

The Why:
A bibliography is a list of sources (books, journals, websites, periodicals, etc.) one has used for researching a topic. Bibliographies are sometimes called “references” or “works cited” depending on the style format you are using. A bibliography usually just includes the bibliographic information (i.e., the author, title, publisher, ).
An annotation is a summary and/or analysis of the credibility of the source.
Therefore, an annotated bibliography includes a summary and/or evaluation of each of the sources. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. Annotations are usually about 250 words.
An Annotated Bibliography provides specific information about each source you have used. This allows you to explain the content of the sources, assess their usefulness, and share this information with the reader.
The How:

The central argument of Blink is that our unconscious is able to find patterns in situations and behavior based on very narrow slices of experience. These patterns can be changed with priming which refers to when subtle triggers influence our behavior without our awareness of such changes.

Decide on a general topic of importance to you related to the concepts presented in Blink. Develop a narrow argument for your topic by stating claims and supporting your claims with academic text (research from your annotated bibliography).

General topics in Blink:

Unconcious patterns of behavior
Thin slicing
Rapid cognition
First impressions
Manipulating first impressions
Facial coding

Annotation Format:

Summarize: What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine how detailed your summary is. (Required: Rhetorical précis or 4-5 sentences)

Assess: Evaluate the source. Evaluate the authors of the source. What are their credibility and reliability? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? This must include an examination of the source and an examination of the author(s). For your source Magazine or Website or Movie, you should include the CRAAP score in your assessment. (Required: 6-7 sentences)

Reflect: Once you’ve summarized and assessed a source, you need to ask how it fits into your research. Was this source helpful to you? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source in your research project? Has it changed how you think about your topic? Include one direct quote from the source that supports your topic. (Required: 5-6 sentences)
