Human Resource Management
The purpose of these assignments is to encourage the student to investigate and make connections in a business or industry they may be interested in working in. This project requires the student to research what companies do in the area of Employee Relations both from an academic level (research in Part 1) and then from an application level (interview of actual practitioner in Part 2). The student will then pull all this information together into a summary presentation (Part 3) with a reflection of what you have learned. Through this investigation the student will have the opportunity to see how Employee Relations is considered in the business/industry.
Part 1 – Employee Relations Research Paper
Think of a hypothetical company around which you will frame your research for this assignment (if you currently work you can use the company you work for, or think about the kind of company you would like to work for). Research local and online companies and what they do about employee relations and motivation techniques, and address the following elements:
• Various communication styles for maintaining employee relations
• The importance of diversity
• Performance appraisal and conflict management
• The importance and impact of training and development
• Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation strategies
• Performance measures and their role with the performance management system
• Team building concepts
• The staffing process
• Best practices in labor relations
