Annotated Bibliography Instructions
The annotated bibliography is a list of complete citations for each source you are using in your research essay, followed by a brief paragraph describing and summarizing the source. The citation is formatted exactly as it will appear in your Works Cited listing.
The paragraph following each citation must do these 4 things:
1. Briefly identify ALL authors’ credentials. (If no author, then identify the publisher or sponsoring organization and its credentials.)
2. Indicate the target audience for the source.
3. Give a brief summary including the author’s thesis or argument and main ideas. (This should be a few sentences long. Don’t use quotations, and don’t plagiarize—be sure you’ve put the information into your OWN words.
4. End with a brief statement of how you will use this information in your essay. Be specific.
Your annotated bibliography must include an entry for each one of your sources; the length will depend on the number and length of your sources.
It must be typed in correct MLA format:
· A centered title with a colon and a brief reference to your topic
Ex: Annotated Bibliography: Police Reform
· Correctly formatted citations
· Double spacing throughout, with no extra spaces between entries
· Alphabetized listings by author’s last name (or first key word, if there is no author)
**NOTE: Even though you will have several entries, this is a single document.
DO NOT PUT ENTRIES ON SEPARATE PAGES.
