Use At least 3 resources please
Also, please read the summary of book or actual book; also, read my essay about the ‘4 fish’ so you might get what’s going on and relate to this order essay.
Now that you have completed “Four Fish: The Future of the Last Wild Food”, you have been introduced to some of the challenges associated with harvesting wild fish from the ocean for a growing population. You also probably now realize that there are many potential strategies to both conserve the remaining wild stocks and expand different methods of aquaculture to alleviate some of the pressure off of wild fish populations.
Your final project will be based off of researching different policy strategies that local governments, states, national and international bodies can implement to manage fish stocks. Some policy strategies were mentioned in the book (enacting ocean zoning programs, passing legislation like the Sustainable Fisheries Act, creating Fisheries Management Councils, etc), but they were not discussed in a lot of detail. You will need to look into how various fish or invertebrate stocks that were not the central focus of the book (salmon, sea bass, cod or tuna) are actually managed.
Choose two popular fish or invertebrate species excluding salmon, sea bass, codfish, and salmon, (sardines and you can choose one) that were not one of the four focused on in the book. For each one, investigate their characteristics that make them a popular species to catch and eat. What are the challenges associated with their management? What conservation attempts have been made (scientifically, legally, educationally, etc), and what are other options that have been used successfully in other fisheries or regions that may help your chosen fish stocks? Who is responsible for the decision-making process? How? Under what legal jurisdiction? Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each of these specific laws and strategies, and offer your opinion on how it could be done better. Please make sure that you go into enough depth and specifics to show a solid understanding of how fisheries management realistically works. (In other words, don’t just recommend general oversimplified prescriptions like “make better laws” or “close down fishing grounds” without any consideration of scientific, legal, economic and social implications).
Your paper should be 5-6 pages long (Normal font and margins). Please keep in mind that this is the minimum length to be considered complete and does not guarantee a good grade: quality of content is much more important than quantity. Please make sure you specifically address each of the questions posed in the preceding paragraph in a level of detail expected for a college honors-level course.
You must use at least 3 good quality resources for each species described in your paper including both online and printed materials. Find scientific reports through college library resources and reputable online information from web sources like universities, museums, and government agencies (not student postings, blogs or non-scientifically reviewed resources). All reference information summarized should be properly cited in your paper (please do not use direct quotes).
