Choose a topic that you want to start working on. At this point, it might be a clear topic, something like the global implications of free speech in videogames, or it might be a question that you’ve been considering based on the reading so far. Find two sources that relate to the topic. One should be a scholarly source (see Research Orientation Videos page if you haven’t yet). The other may be either scholarly or popular (provided the popular source is still subject to some editorial oversight).
“find two source about the shardy internet addiction rehab centers to work on”
Create bibliography entries (MLA style for works cited entries; feel free to use citation generators or the “Cite” button on a database, but double check their accuracy) and short annotations for the two sources. Instruction on MLA formatting are available at the Purdue OWL (Links to an external site.). (This link goes directly to the Electronic Sources page. “An Article from an Online Database” is the type that will apply to most things you’ll find using the library’s website.)
Each annotation should do three things: introduce author and describe their credentials (or lack thereof), briefly summarize the source text, and explain how you plan to use the source in your own writing. See the example below.
Above the two entries, write a sentence or two explaining the topic as you currently conceive it. You won’t be locked in, but I do want you to have a specific idea in mind to start with.
Bogost, Ian. How to Talk about Videogames. University of Minnesota Press, 2015.
Ian Bogost is a researcher and videogame developer, who works on game criticism and has published several books on the topic. In the paper, I want to discuss his take on freedom of speech in Chapter 10 of the book in which he argues that videogame companies use the value of free speech to drum up publicity, not for ethical considerations.
