Create a case study of a patient with melanoma using these signs and symptoms: There is a key rule when trying to identify if a patient has Melanoma. It is commonly known as the ABCDE’s. A is for asymmetry, B stands for border, C is for color, D is for diameter or darkness, and E is for evolve. When moles and birthmarks are benign, they are usually symmetric, have an even border, have a consistent color, small in size, and do not change/ evolve overtime. If a patient comes with a mole/ birthmark that identify with the ABCDE’s then there should be some concern on whether it is melanoma. Along with the ABCDE’s some other signs of melanoma are sudden itchiness or tenderness, a sore that does not heal, a change in the surface of the mole such as scaliness or appearance of a lump or oozing/ bleeding. Melanomas can appear anywhere on the body, such as in fingernails, toenails, inside of the mouth, etc. Melanomas are commonly found on a women’s leg or on a man’s trunk is the most common place to find a melanoma.
Then you must write these possible diagnosis, list them from most likely to less likely to have:
– Atypical Mole (dysplastic nevi)
– Pigmented seborrheic keratosis
Next, you must write the pathophysiology on each possible diagnosis: This has to be detail enough so that you can explain all the signs, symptoms, patient’s history and all diagnostic tests results. There are no minimum or maximum number of pages you need to write, but comprehensive pathophysiology should suffice
Then, you must write any suggestions on what tests are to be done to give a more specific diagnosis of the patient.
Lastly, you must give a brief treatment plan for the patient with Melanoma.
